Is laughter the best medicine?

00.00, Tuesday 10 December 2013

41 Portland Place The Academy of Medical Sciences

London

This event is now sold out. Please email holly.rogers@acmedsci.ac.uk if you would like to be notified when tickets are made available for future events.

Join us at the Academy of Medical Sciences as we explore the science of hilarity and the hilarity of science.

We'll be hearing what excites and entertains our hand-picked team of medical researchers, and finding out what happens to the body when we laugh from Academy Fellow, Professor Sophie Scott FMedSci, Wellcome Senior Fellow at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCL.

Our host for the evening will be Dr Steve Cross, Head of Public Engagement at UCL and founder of Bright Club, Science Showoff and much, much more.

Along the way, we’ll also be monitoring audience reactions to a special comedy performance, in a live experiment to prove once and for all whether laughter really is the best medicine.

Joining us on stage:

Dr Brendan Clarke, Department of Science and Technology Studies, University College London

Sarah Wiseman, UCL Interaction Centre, University College London

Dr Soazig Clifton,  National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, NatCen

Tickets are limited so early booking is recommended.

Doors open from 7pm. A bar and light refreshments will be available.
