Academy hosts InterAcademy Medical Panel meeting

The Academy was delighted to host the spring meeting of the Executive Committee of the InterAcademy Medical Panel (now known as the InterAcademy Partnership for Health) on Wednesday 29 April 2015.

The InterAcademy Medical Panel (IAMP) is a network of the world's medical Academies and medical sections of Academies of science and engineering, incorporating more than seventy Academies from across the globe. IAMP works to: strengthen the capacity of global Academies and support the creation of new ones; support member Academy projects that strengthen research and higher education in their countries; and issue consensus statements on matters of importance to global health.

The Academy’s Foreign Secretary, Professor George Griffin FMedSci, welcomed delegates from Brazil, China, France, Germany, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, and the USA, alongside representatives from partner organisations. The agenda included productive discussions on strategic directions for the network, the Lancet-Rockefeller Foundation Planetary Health Commission project, One Health, Urban Health and Social Determinants of Health Inequity.

The meetings were followed by a guided tour of the museum of the Royal College of Physicians of London, and an evening dinner.
