One year of progress on improving research reproducibility

Today, we publish an update on our ongoing efforts to improve research reproducibility. In October 2015, the Academy, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Medical Research Council (MRC) and Wellcome jointly published the symposium report, ‘Reproducibility and reliability of biomedical research: improving research practice’. This report summarised the causes of irreproducible results, highlighted areas for improvement and stressed the need for cross-sector and international efforts to ensure the reliability of research findings.

We are delighted to publish an update today, alongside the original symposium partners, on our collective progress in this area one year on. The update  identifies five key areas in which the four organisations have made progress over the past 12 months:

  • Openness and transparency
  • Research design
  • Funding decisions
  • Education and training
  • Raising awareness
