Academy’s Helix Group raises over £25,000

The demand for the unique expertise provided by the Fellowship of the Academy far outweighs what can be achieved with current resources.

To facilitate a transformation in capacity the Academy launched its new Helix Group in 2014. The Helix Group includes our most significant supporters who donate £250 or more each year to the Academy’s work. The generosity of over 90 donors has seen £25,000 raised towards medical science over the past year. These funds contribute to our new Transformation Fund that supports our high quality policy reports, our work to nurture the next generation and our international activities.

The impact the Transformation Fund can make was demonstrated at our Annual General Meeting in early December when three new major policy studies were launched.  Chairs Dame Anne Johnson FMedSci, Professor Anne Ridley FMedSci and Professor Dorothy Bishop FRS FBA FMedSci presented on the working group activities on, Health of the public: 2040, Team Science, and Research Reproducibility respectively.  The fund will also contribute to the Academy’s new SUSTAIN programme, to be launched in 2015. This pilot scheme seeks to support 20 women on the cusp of independent research careers

The Academy is extremely grateful for the support of current members and encourages more donors to pledge their support.
