Professor Sir Peter Ratcliffe receives the 2016 Lasker Award

Professor Sir Peter Ratcliffe FRS FMedSci has received the 2016 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award.

Alongside Professor William Kaelin Jr, and Professor Gregg Semenza, the award was given for their discovery of the pathway by which cells from human and most animals sense and adapt to changes in oxygen availability.

Since 1945, the Lasker Awards Program has recognized the contributions of scientists, physicians, and public servants who have made major advances in the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of human disease.
