The Academy launches the new round of the SUSTAIN programme for 2017-2018

Weeks after the conclusion of the first year of the pilot programme, the Academy is opening the call for applications for the second round.

After a very successful first year, during which 20 participants, coming from different branches of research went through the career-enhancing series of workshops and activities, SUSTAIN will now recruit a new cohort of scientists for 2017-2018.

Thanks to the additional support of the Medical Research Council and the Royal Society, the Academy has been able to extend the pilot for a further year.

"I joined SUSTAIN at a critical time as an early career principal investigator, managing a new team and transitioning from a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship to a Senior Lectureship", said Dr Zania Stamataki, a participant to the SUSTAIN pilot.

"Over the year, I received hands-on training that helped me capitalise on opportunities within my institution and built lasting relationships with peers and mentors of the scheme. My mentor was generous with his time and thoughts and our relationship really empowered me to push on with my research programme while at the same time becoming a more effective group leader. Highly recommended!"
