Since its establishment in 1998 the Academy has grown rapidly. We now have 942 Fellows, elected on the basis of their contributions to a broad range of medical sciences. All our work in medical science policy, in career development and through our FORUM with industry strives to benefit individual patients through the application of medical research. We rely on voluntary donations to support the costs of our varied portfolio of work each year.

In addition the Academy is fundraising for the refurbishment of 41 Portland Place to create our own independent, professional headquarters in the heart of medical London.

The building will allow us to perform our mission and serve our Fellowship even more effectively. It will provide:
• A home for the Academy, a venue for all our activities and a permanent location for our Fellows to meet, in the heart of medical London
• Financial security and sustainability as the building will generate an annual net profit through conference room and office hire, which will allow us to increase our activities.
• A stronger national and international identity and leadership role for the Academy as the building will be a focal point for biomedicine and leading scientists in the international arena which will enable us to increase the impact of our work.
• A medical science hub for scientists, clinicians, trainees, policymakers, patients and journalists.
