The Academy’s mentoring and outreach initiatives are designed to support and provide guidance to medical students and academic trainees to become independent clinical academics. The scheme is a central component in the Academy’s drive to ‘attract and develop the brightest individuals to careers in biomedical science in academe and industry’. The Academy's highly regarded, UK-wide Mentoring & Outreach Scheme started with one-to-one mentoring for Clinician Scientist Fellows but has expanded to include a range of opportunities for medical students and clinical academics right across the career grades. Two schemes focus on promoting academic medicine as an attractive career pathway to medical students and Foundation Year students.
Regular regional events provide valuable networking opportunities for anyone interested in pursuing a career in academic medicine.
If you would like to register to receive a bi-monthly e-bulletin detailing forthcoming Academy of Medical Sciences and external events, as well as other information for clinical academic trainees, please email mentoring@acmedsci.ac.uk.
