Academia with Industry – innovation in patient care

The FORUM is an active network composed of scientists from industrial companies and academia. It currently focuses on the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical engineering, medical IT, and health product sectors with representation from relevant trade organizations, Government departments, Research Councils, and other major research sponsors. Medico-legal and venture capital firms are also included.

The FORUM promotes interaction between industrial and academic biomedical scientists and engineers, and other groups committed to improvements in healthcare through research.

The UK is the primary focus of the FORUM but, as many issues and outputs have a wider relevance, the FORUM includes international perspectives, especially within Europe.

In bringing together researchers, research funders and research users, the FORUM is a new force in taking forward national discussions on scientific opportunities, technology trends and the associated strategic choices for healthcare and other life-science sectors.

As a component of the Academy, the FORUM is responsible to the Academy Council, but sets its own programme agenda and has its own high-level Strategy Committee. All statements and publications produced by the FORUM bear the approval of the Academy Council.
