The Academy of Medical Sciences and its FORUM with industry held a workshop to showcase the importance of collaboration across academia, industry and the NHS in driving forward innovation in the medical sciences.

The aim of the workshop was to:

• Showcase the importance of joint industry, academia and NHS collaborations.

• Inspire young scientists and raise awareness of the possibilities for collaboration.

• Promote initiatives and funding schemes currently available.

The event was targeted at researchers including clinical academics in training, non-clinical scientists and industry researchers.

Speakers included: Professor Sir John Bell FRS PMedSci, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences; Professor Sir Philip Cohen FRS FRSE FMedSci, Director of the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit; Lord Drayson, Minister of State for Science & Innovation; Professor Patrick Vallance FMedSci, Vice President, Drug Discovery, GlaxoSmithKline; A full programme can be found below.

Presentations were accompanied by discussion of the strengths and challenges of cross-sector collaboration and an informative session on relevant funding schemes.
