Diabetes & obesity: getting to the heart of the matter

Summary:

The Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society of Edinburgh hosted a horizon scanning meeting in May to review contemporary findings in the obesity-diabetes 'epidemic', with an emphasis on the implications for future developments.

The meeting, held on Wednesday 26 May at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, covered topics including epidemiology and genetics, disease mechanisms, novel imaging approaches, and new therapies.

The event brought together researchers working at all levels across academia, industry and the health service to review recent research and horizon scan future developments. It also included a poster session for PhD students and post-doc researchers. A report of the symposium will be published in the near future.
