Human tissue legislation

Summary| Project Downloads

Summary:

In December 2003 the Human Tissue Bill was introduced to Parliament. The Bill sought to regulate the storage and use of human tissue and organs for purposes including research, teaching, transplantation, public health monitoring, clinical audit and public display. Its intention was to clarify requirements governing the use of human tissue for these purposes and provide a consistent legislative framework under which they could be conducted.

The Academy submitted views on the Bill, both independently and in partnership with others, as it progressed through Parliament.
