Human tissue legislation 2003-5

The Academy responded to a number of consultations about the use of human tissue for research that were issued in 2003-2005.

Status: Completed

In 2004 the Academy responded to the consultation about the Human Tissue Bill that was introduced to Parliament in December 2003. The Bill sought to regulate the storage and use of human tissue and organs for purposes including research and teaching.

In July 2005 the Academy responded to consultations about the draft Codes of Practice and draft Regulations pertaining to the Human Tissue Act.

The Academy has continued to engage with research using human tissues under its regulation of heath research strand.
