Andrew Morris is Professor of Diabetic Medicine at the University of Dundee. He created and led the Diabetes Audit and Research in Tayside programme, DARTS, which includes 16,000 patients and is using powerful record-linkage approaches. He is Chairman of the Steering Group for the Scottish Translational Medicine Research Collaboration a £50M, five year industrial/scientific Collaboration between the clinical medical schools, Wyeth, Scottish Enterprise, and NHS Scotland. He also leads the Generation Scotland programme that is recruiting 50,000 family members for the genetic study of common diseases. He is leading the way in the vital, but challenging task of unlocking the enormous value of the NHS as a research resource.
