Helen McShane, Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford, is a clinical academic who has made pioneering contributions to translational research through her world-leading TB vaccine programme. She leads a strong pre-clinical and clinical research team in Oxford and works with collaborating sites throughout the UK, in The Gambia, Senegal, Uganda and South Africa. Her standing in the TB vaccine field is illustrated by her strong collaborations with many groups in Europe and the USA. She chairs the European Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative advisory committee and is a member of two WHO working groups on BCG and new TB vaccines.
