Deborah Ashby is Professor of Medical Statistics and Clinical Trials at Imperial College, London. She is a leader in applied Bayesian statistics, has led the UK in applying these methodologies to the assessment of safety and effectiveness of medicines, which has had a transforming impact on drug regulation. She helped inaugurate and was statistical editor for the Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorders Cochrane group and now leads the Research Methods Programme for the National Institute of Health Research. She was awarded the OBE for services to medicine in 2009.
