The Academy's FORUM held a meeting on ageing on 16 September 2016. Participants explored the current 'state of play' of ageing research and how this science can be used for decision-making, including how the health and social care system can benefit from this research. Discussions focussed on the implications of advances in ageing research, including how the science can be used to understand trends in longevity and health; altering the trajectories of ageing and health; supporting health promoting environments; and opportunities for intervention and prevention in health and social care.

The meeting, co-chaired by Professor Tom Kirkwood CBE FMedSci and Sir John Pattison FMedSci, brought together participants from across the healthcare sector including academia, healthcare industry, NHS, public health, actuary, regulators and charities, amongst others.

The full meeting report of this event has now been published and is available on the sidebar of this page.
