What happens when music and medicine collide?

Music and medicine is an evening of talks, performances and demonstrations that will showcase the more unexpected links between music and health, bringing together doctors, researchers and musicians for an evening of entertainment and intrigue.

There will be the opportunity to hear about research carried out by the Royal College of Music into the effects of music in hospitals, the chance to see how the pressure of performing impacts on the body, and learn about the physiology of beatboxing.

We will be joined by the Orchestra of St John’s, which holds pioneering musical therapy sessions with autistic children, who will be sharing a very special performance with us and talking about their work.

The evening will also feature talks from:

  • Professor Chris McManus FMedSci, University College London
  • Professor Sophie Scott FMedSci, University College London
  • Professor Karen Steel FRS FMedSci, King’s College London
