Academy signs memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Medicine

The Academy of Medical Sciences is delighted to sign a memorandum of understanding with the institute of Medicine, the health arm of the US National Academy of Sciences.

The Academy signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Medicine on 24 March 2014, as part of our joint meeting on the topic of ‘How do our health systems respond to evolving challenges?’. The meeting took place at the Academy's headquarters in London.

The MoU notes that the increasingly global nature of health challenges means that strategies to address them must also be international. The desire to improve national and global health is at the heart of both organisations’ missions. The MoU sets out our intentions to ‘cooperate and work together to achieve this goal' and particularly to 'promote links and communication between the two organisations where policy issues have an international domain.’ The Academy greatly looks forward to working with the Institute of Medicine in this way.

A report of the meeting has now been published.
