Public health research: reflections from the CDC
Major changes to the UK public health system and the continuing importance of public health in developing countries offer substantial opportunities to strengthen and harness public health research.
Dr Tom Frieden is Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He was previously Commissioner of the New York City Health Department where he led internationally-renowned public health projects on many issues including smoking.
To harness his experiences and garner his advice, the Academy of Medical Sciences convened a high-level roundtable for Dr Frieden to meet with some of the UK and Europe’s most eminent public health experts.
